Foundation News: Foundation Update (December 2025)

We did it – The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation’s MRI Campaign is complete! On December 1, 2023 we officially kicked off our multi-million-dollar MRI campaign with the goal to bring Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services to SLMHC and our region. Early in 2025, the Ontario Government announced their financial commitment assist with the first-ever MRI machine in Sioux Lookout. On September 16, 2025 ground breaking for the brand new state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Suite at SLMHC happened! With construction officially underway, our goals of bringing these essential services to our area have come full circle, thus meaning our MRI campaign has now officially come to an end.
The 14th Home Hardware Skip to Equip Classic took place November 7-9, 2025 at the Sioux Lookout Golf and Curling Club and raised a record-breaking $162,000! The annual women’s bonspiel hosted 20 teams with curlers from Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Ignace, Hamilton, Atikokan and Thunder Bay participating, making for a fantastic weekend of camaraderie, good curling and fun. The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya win Health Centre Foundation is grateful for the dedication and partnership with Skip to Equip. This is the largest fundraiser of the year in support of the Foundation as well as a great community event. We can’t thank the committee members, participants, sponsors and donors enough for their continued support and commitment to health care for the North. Mark your calendars for next year’s event – November 13-15, 2026.
The SLMCH Foundation continues to be a committed hospital partner in the highly successful “Split the Pot Lottery”. This lottery is gaining participation which means larger and more exciting prizes! It differs from a traditional 50/50 in the sense that the grand prize is split between 13 lucky winners and not just one. This means that not only does Split the Pot Lottery offer an amplified jackpot, but also an increased number of lucky winners, and a simpler way to make a difference to Ontario health care while still supporting SLMHC. We have had a local Early Bird winner as well as a recent Grand Prize Winner who chose to support SLMHC! To purchase tickets or for more information, please visit our foundation website at www.slmhc.on.ca/foundation and be sure to select Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation from the drop-down menu during checkout to maximize the benefit to our local hospital.
We are seeking passionate community members to join our Board of Directors. If you believe in the power of local healthcare and want to play a role in shaping its future, this call is for YOU! As a Board member, you’ll make valuable contributions to the SLMHC Foundation in our mission to raise vital funds for life-saving equipment and hospital programs, helping to ensure exceptional care close to home! This is a meaningful opportunity to have a significant impact on healthcare at SLMHC, to work with a motivated team, and to bring your insights and leadership to help others. We are also seeking “Friends of the Foundation” – those who are looking to make a difference by assisting occasionally with events and initiatives but perhaps are unable to commit to sitting on the board. If this sounds appealing, please contact us!
The Foundation’s purpose is to raise money in order to provide funding for medical equipment, education, special treatment programs and capital building funds for the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre. All funds raised are directed to the Equipment Fund.
