SLMHC Foundation MRI Campaign Update: December 2024
The goal is to bring Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services to Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) which will provide over 50,000 residents in North Western Ontario with more equitable and timely access to this much needed diagnostic imaging service. MRI Services are becoming a core health care diagnostic asset and improves patient outcomes as a result of more accurate and timelier diagnosis and therefore treatment. MRI will compliment our other diagnostic services such as CT, Ultrasound, Mammography and X-Ray.
The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre Foundation announced the official launch of our MRI Campaign on December 1, 2023. Since it’s kick off, this campaign has seen an outpour of community support both locally and throughout the region with countless personal donations from residents, clubs and businesses. Major donations have also been received and recognized in local media from the following: the Morgan Family, The Home Hardware Skip to Equip 2023, CUPE 4373, NWMO, Knights of Columbus (local 3198), the Hudson Fire Team Association, Home Hardware through their Building Community 2024 Golf Tournament, Rotary Club Sioux Lookout, Dryden Rotary Foundation, Lac Seul First Nation, Mahkwa Lodge Corporation, Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch 78, The Municipality of Sioux Lookout, The Home Hardware Skip to Equip 2024, Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority and The Standard Insurance together with Wawanesa Insurance. SLMHC Foundation’s ongoing participation in the extremely successful Split the Pot Lottery over the past year has seen great benefits as well with our partnership proceeds being directed to this campaign. Currently, $2.5 million dollars is accessible for the project, leaving the required amount to fulfill the endeavor at an estimated amount of $4.5 million to be raised.
As previously announced, Ontario Health North West will provide base funding to support the operation of a new MRI Scanner. SLMHC is responsible for all capital costs associated with construction to house the new MRI Scanner, as well as the MRI itself meaning campaign will directly support the capital costs associated with the new MRI Scanner. All funds raised through the MRI Campaign will be directed to the Equipment Fund with priority being given to the MRI.
